Blender - Simple Camera Shake Addon

28 ratings

Simple Camera Shake is a lightweight Blender addon that lets you add natural camera motion in seconds without touching your underlying animation.

Found in View3D > Right Panel > Camera Shake, it applies noise modifiers to delta transforms, so your original keys stay intact. Start from built‑in presets like Default, Smooth, Medium, Strong, or Micro Shakes, or save your own presets to keep a consistent style across shots. With clear controls for location and rotation, you can dial in motion that feels grounded and film‑friendly.

The addon is designed around a practical workflow: create a new shake, restrict it to a frame range with blend in/out for clean transitions, then refine or edit later as needed. You can open the Graph Editor directly from the panel to inspect curves, and manage shakes per camera with a tidy list view. When it’s time to clean up, remove shakes in one click, with an option to also reset delta keyframes. It’s a fast, non‑destructive way to introduce handheld energy, subtle vibration, or environmental movement, right where you need it.

Tutorial:

Overview

  • Simple Camera Shake adds natural, controllable motion to your camera in seconds, right from View3D > UI > Camera Shake .
  • The panel flows the way you work: choose the active camera, configure a new shake, review and edit existing shakes, and clean up when you’re done.
  • It uses Blender’s noise modifiers on delta transforms, keeping your original animation intact.

Active Camera

  • Works with the currently selected Active Camera, so you’re always adjusting exactly the shot you intend.

New Shake

  • Presets: Start with built‑ins: Default, Smooth, Medium, Strong, Micro Shakes 1, Micro Shakes 2, or create your own. Add, rename, and delete user presets to standardize motion styles across shots.
  • Core controls:
    • Location Scale and Location Strength to shape positional shake
    • Rotation Scale and Rotation Strength for rotational shake
    • Restrict Frame Range:
    • Limit the shake to a specific segment with Start, End, and smooth Blend In/Out
    • Set start/end directly from the timeline with one click
  • One‑click create:
    • Add the shake to the active camera; the addon names and organizes noise modifiers under the hood for easy management later.

Shakes

  • Per‑camera list: See every shake on the active camera, along with its frame range, at a glance.
  • Edit mode:
    • Switch presets or fine‑tune the current shake values live
    • Optionally restrict the edit to a range, with start/end and blend in/out
    • Advanced refinement via Offset and Phase for both location and rotation, to vary motion timing without re‑keying
    • Confirm to apply changes cleanly across all corresponding noise modifiers
  • Graph Editor integration:
    • Open the Graph Editor aligned under the viewport with one button
    • Relevant curves are auto‑selected and framed, ready for manual polish or inspection

Remove

  • Clean removal: Delete shakes for the active camera with a single action.
  • Optional reset:
    • Toggle “Remove Keyframes Too” to also remove delta transform keyframes and reset delta transforms to neutral, keeping your scene tidy when you want a full rollback.

Benefits

  • Non‑destructive: Uses delta transforms and noise modifiers, preserving original animation data.
  • Fast iteration: From preset to a production‑ready shake in seconds; refine interactively with immediate visual feedback.
  • Consistent results: Save and reuse your presets for team‑wide consistency.
  • Shot‑friendly: Restrict to ranges with blend in/out to avoid abrupt transitions and keep edits localized.
  • Clear workflow: Panel order mirrors typical tasks — select, create, edit, and clean up — reducing context switching.
  • Flexible: Supports all camera rotation modes (Euler, Quaternion, Axis Angle) and adapts noise modifiers accordingly.

Where It Fits

  • Adds subtle handheld motion, vehicle vibration, environmental tremor, and other natural dynamics without custom rigging.
  • Ideal for previs and final animation alike: start with a preset, dial values, and jump to the Graph Editor only when needed.
  • Maintains a clean scene: organized modifier naming and a per‑camera shake list make edits and removals straightforward.

Location

  • Find it in View3D > Right Panel > Camera Shake.

V1.0.0 (discontinued version):

  • 1.0.0 Beta 1: Fixed a bug that when multiple objects were selected it generated several elements in the Simple Camera Shake addon panel.
  • 1.0.0 Beta 2: Fixed a bug that was adding noise modifiers also to camera "location and rotation" parameters instead of just adding to "delta location and delta rotation" parameters.

Hope it helps everyone!
